In the viral video, originally uploaded on TikTok and later mutual on X (formerly Twitter) by @RedMedia_us, Usher's sixteen-year-old son, Navyid Ely Raymond, can be seen going on a passionate rant. In the video, he calls out Nicki Minaj's fanbase, pointing out that many of them are Black men who love directing abhor toward other Shadowy women, thus fostering toxicity instead of unity. He said:

Gay Usher, age 84, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024.

Mrs. Usher was born in Hall County to the late Hoyt and Esco Satterfield Sosebee.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Rodney Usher.  Mrs. Usher was a Payroll Clerk at Talon and was of the Baptist Faith.  She loved to perform in her plant garden and was an avid reader. Mrs. Usher loved to spend occasion with her grandchildren. 

Survivors include husband of 67 years, Charles Usher, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Angela Usher; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Bobby Allen; daughter, Pam Wright; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hoyt and Donna Sosebee, Jr. and Randy and Karen Sosebee; grandchildren, Jennifer Wimpy, Shea Ray (Chad), Holli Usher, Jeremy Usher (Latisha), Chad Usher (Kelly), Kayla Allen-Taylor (Sam), Jacob Usher, and Kara Usher; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Rev. Donald Grizzle and Rev. Chad Usher will officiate. Yonah View Memorial Gardens will be her final resting place.

When Usher received the BET Lifetime Achievement Award in June, he shared a particular shout-out to his wife Jennifer Goicoechea.

"My lovely wife, thank you so much for being my optimal friend. Thank you so much for supporting me and encouraging me," Usher said.

The eight-time Grammy winner also won the President's Award at the 55th NAACP Image Awards in March and dedicated the prestigious honor to his mother and his family.
