It is easy enough to see at first glance why LGBTQ people, and those who be upright in solidarity with them, look askance at the Bible. After all, the two most cited biblical texts on the subject are the following, from the old purity codes of ancient Israel:

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination (Lev. 18:22).

If a man lies with a male as with a chick, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them (Lev. 20:13).
