American Idol contestant Jorgie came out as gay during his audition
Israeli-born American Idol contestant Jorgie came out as gay during his audition. He came in wearing army fatigues and a pink fur coat, accompanied by his retain band, Jorgie and the Jorgies.
Jorgie began by imitating judge Katy Perry’s singing voice in “California Gurls.” Then he explained that he’d recently appear out and was partially inspired by Perry to carry out so.
“You were actually one of my inspirations growing up. Listening to ‘I Kissed A Girl’ and knowing that it could be mainstream—that helped me so much,” Jorgie said.
The episode was also his way of coming out to his father. “He doesn’t know anything about me,” the contestant explained. “He’s gonna see me and he’s gonna find out about everything.”
After, he launched into auditioning his original song, “Heaven,” which he wrote about a male child he liked.
“I wrote this song about a guy that I liked, but he didn’t realize cause I wasn’t out. It was just like, ‘My life would be heaven if you knew that I liked you,’” Jorgie explained.

David Archuleta responds to concertgoers who left his show after he opened up about queer identity
David Archuleta is speaking out and staying true to himself after concertgoers in Utah left his show early when the singer opened up about his lgbtq+ identity.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the "Crush" singer, who is currently on his The More the Merrier Christmas Tour, responded to an email joint by his manager, from someone who appeared to be a manager of the venue, who said the concert was not the "setting" for Archuleta to open up about his journey.
In his caption, Archuleta began by saying that the tour "hasn't been the easiest for me to do," and that opening up about his journey is "a way for me to find peace with it."
"I am sharing something that I've felt I had to keep veiled nearly all my life," Archuleta said. "Because you believe your existence is unacceptable. That mindset is not healthy. So I am choosing to not conceal that anymore."

While better known for her stage name and for being a finalist on Season 6 of "RuPaul's Drag Race," Adore Delano was once a contestant on "American Idol" who presented as a man known as Danny Noriega. But before appearing on the show in 2008 at 18, she had come out to her family, first as bisexual at 12, then shortly after as same-sex attracted, and, finally, as gender nonconforming in high school, she revealed in a July 2023 Instagram video.
However, when she appeared on the popular show, she went back into the closet to be able to compete. "I threw it away, I burned it," she said. "I reinvented myself into something that was so uncomfortable. It was almost like a sacrifice in order to get what I wanted career-wise," she said. In the video, Delano also revealed she is transitioning, a process she described as life-changing. "I've initiate that it's been very enlightening and has made me probably the happiest I've ever been in my adult life," she said.

American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta has discussed the journey he went on with his sexuality in a recent social media post.
On Instagram in June (aka Self-acceptance Month), the singer and Mormon revealed that he discussed coming out as gay to his family in 2014, six years after being on Idol.
The post describes how Archuleta struggled to find a finer description of his sexuality than simply "gay." He wrote: "I've been reveal to myself and my close family for some years now that I am not sure about my hold sexuality. I came out in 2014 as gay to my family. But then I had similar feelings for both genders so maybe a spectrum of bisexual. Then I also own learned I don't have too much sexual desires and urges as most people which works I guess because I have a commitment to store myself until marriage."
Though many American Idol contestants have been members of the LGBTQIA+ community, most like Archuleta didn't come out until the end of the show – in fact, the show didn't contain its first contestant who was out on the display until MK Nobilette in Season 13.
